Proposal for Web Delivered Instruction

Tom Pleasanton

Project Overview

The week long instructional unit I would like to pursue for my Web assignment concerns bridge construction. The assignment would direct the student towards the construction and engineering of a full scale passenger bridge. The student would be responsible for determining the style and design of the bridge. After determining what the appearance of the bridge will be, the student will develop appropriate engineering requirements for the structure. This information would have to be generated from Web based research. The Web based research would begin with the instructor designed Web site. On this site the student will be directed to various seach engines that will provide preliminary information for each of the five classroom sessions. The research will cover one week of classroom instruction. On day one the student will research various types of bridges and determine which type of bridge design will best meet the pre-determined dimensions. Day two the bridge load capacity and engineering requirements will be calculated. The third day will involve material estimation and types of connections. Day four will involve the material procurement and location of suitable suppliers. On the final day the student will develop a timeline for the construction of the project with respect to eligible contractors.

Target Audience

The target audience for this particular project will be students in grades eleven and twelve. The occupational majors participating in this project will be students of CAD, building construction, and welding.

Content Standards

The student will address the content standards currently in place for his/her occupational area. These content standards will be measured with the competency list developed by the Association of General Contractors of America.

Assessment Strategies

The student will be assessed on this unit by means of a "Quality Rubric". This rubric will address how well the student met the categories;
